The water in the Groot River Lagoon in Nature´s Valley is slowly being warmed by the spring sun. Children paddle at its edge in shallow water. Women hold onto their straw hats due to the strong wind. The wind also whistles through the dense forest of Tsitsikama National Park and shapes the white sand of endless empty beaches at the Indian Ocean.
The sight of the surrounding untouched landscape makes us want to stay longer to do more walking tours on the empty white beaches or treks in the nearby coastal forest. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to watch the white sharks, which have recently mysteriously disappeared from South Africa´s coastal areas. Just a short stay in Nature´s Valley turns the ever-present feelings of unrest into sediments settling on the bottom of the swirling soul.
On the background of innocent-blue sky, circles a confused kite. It dances wildly carried by a strong wind as the father firmly holds the hands of the little navigator. A determined lifeguard gives us a brochure with local rules and warnings and awaits a tip. There are several summer residences for rent in Nature´s Valley, a shop with basic necessities, a campsite, a few Bed & Breakfast guesthouses and a little restaurant.
Families with children enjoy their greasy fast food on its spacious terrace. The wind brings smoke clouds from meat being barbecued to us. Especially the local population uses the long weekend due to the celebration of the “Day of Reconciliation” for favorite activities such as having a barbecue outdoors.
After quick refreshment the winding road takes us back to the R102. We stop at a viewpoint and look down at the bottom of another dreamy valley, while the biker standing next to us stares at the bottom of his beer bottle.
Vodu v lagúne rieky Groot River v obci Nature's Valley pomaly zohrievajú jarné slnečné lúče. Na jej kraji sa plytkej vode čľapkajú deti, ktorých matky si kvôli silnému vetru pridržiavajú slamené klobúky na hlavách. Vietor sviští aj hustým lesným porastom Národného Parku Tsitsikama a tvaruje biely piesok nekonečných vyľudnených pláží blízko Indického oceánu.
Pohľad na okolitú nedotknutú krajinu upokojí zblúdenú dušu, núka pobudnúť dlhšie, k prechádzkam po prázdnych plážach, k turistike naprieč pobrežným lesom, k pozorovaniu bielych žralokov, ktoré vraj v poslednej dobe záhadne vymizli z juhoafrických pobrežných oblastí. Neustále prítomné pocity sa odrazu menia na sedimenty usádzajúce sa na dne zvírenej duše.
Na pozadí belasej oblohy krúži spochabený šarkan. Vietor s ním kmáše o sto šesť a otec pevnou rukou drží navigujúce malé ruky jeho syna. Odhodlaný plavčík nám podáva brožúrku s miestnymi pravidlami a upozorneniami. V obci Nature´s Valley sa nachádza niekoľko letných sídel, ktoré sa dajú prenajať, obchodík s najpotrebnejším tovarom, pohostinstvo, kemping a pár Bed&Breakfast penziónov.
Na terase pohostinstva posedávajú rodiny s deťmi pochutnávajúcimi si na rýchlom občerstvení. Hlavne miestne obyvateľstvo využilo predĺžený víkend na svoju najobľúbenejšiu aktivitu- grilovanie v prírode. Oslavujú sviatok zjednotenia Južnej Afriky The Reconciliation Day. Vietor k nám donáša kúdoly dymu a závany grilovaného mäsa.
Po ovlažujúco rýchlom zážitku nás kľukatá cesta vyvedie naspäť na cestu R102. Ešte predtým celkom navrchu zastavíme na vyhliadkovom bode. Hľadíme na dno snivej doliny, zatiaľčo motorkár stojaci povedľa nahliada na dno pivnej fľaše.
